Sacrifice

Sacrifice

Diberitakan sebelumnya, seorang pria tega menghabisi nyawa putrinya di Gresik, Jawa Timur pada Sabtu, 29 April 2023.

I think almost everyone would feel angry and upset reading news like this. Like, how could someone kill their own family? I mean, your own daughter?!

Total ada 24 luka tusuk di punggung anaknya. Hasil autopsi luka tusuk di punggung tembus ke jantung.

Bantal, guling, selimut di tempat tidur terkena bercak darah.

You feel that?

I did too, at first. But after reading and dive in to the whole story, I just felt empty, sad, hopeless, complicated emotions :).

You can read the full article if you want, but let me tell you in short.

  1. Afan (the father) used to be a drug addict, and his wife used to work as a lady companion (LC).
  2. Afan was suspected to be depressed because of financial and family issues. His wife had left their home days before Afan killed their daughter, and it’s suspected she went back to being an LC.
  3. Afan claimed that their daughter, Zee, was often bullied because of her mom’s past as an LC.
  4. After killing his daughter, Afan turned himself in to the police.
  5. During interrogation, Afan said he killed his own daughter because he wanted her to go to heaven as soon as possible.
Pria berusia 29 tahun itu nekat menghabisi nyawa anaknya karena ingin buah hatinya segera masuk surga.

What are you feeling right now? Something wrong was done, driven by an intention that wasn’t wrong at all. Note that I’m not justifying the murder, of course, there’s always another way. But when you try to see it from Afan’s perspective, it almost makes sense why he did it. His mind was in chaos after being abandoned by his wife, his daughter was being bullied, and he was struggling financially. Instead of just killing himself, which would leave his daughter to face an even harder life (most likely), Afan decided to end it all for her, so she could go straight to heaven, skipping the hardships of life.

For someone who’s depressed, it seems like his mind was "clear enough" not to just run away from it all and leave his daughter abandoned. He was ready to bear the weight of all the sins, just for her.

Here’s what was written on a piece of paper (the thumbnail of this blog) by Zee, the night before she was killed:

"Dari Zee untuk Airin. Selamat tinggal Airin. Selamat kenal Zee dan Pelangi dan Alea."

I wish you go into Jannah, Zee, just like your dad's said. He's cruel for killing you, but he gave his own life for you. So, you don't need to struggle anymore in this harsh world :)

Again, I’m not justifying what Afan did. I’m just amazed and touched by the complexity of human nature and the reasoning behind this case.
